Australia vs Pakistan, Aus wins series 5-0

Pakistan WhiteWashed by Australia in the UAE. (PAK vs AUS)

Finch’s Australian team keeps on surprising with their jubilant performances against teams like India and now Pakistan on their Home Grounds. Australia wins the series in UAE and defeated Pakistan by 5-0.

Looks like Pakistan Cricket team was totally clueless in this last crucial series just before the ICC World Cup 2019 and tried pretty much everything from regularly changing Playing XI to changing Captains however nothing seemed to work for them and a disappointing Whitewash was served by Australia to the Men in Green. One can say Pakistan tried a little too many newcomers during this series depicting their lack of seriousness to win the series. It obviously looked like they had no intentions of putting in their best Playing 11 or even put in their A game to win the series. Australia, on the other hand, were very clinical in their performances and players who performed in the previous series continued their good form in this series as well as they were already coming victorious and full of confidence from their Last successful tour of India, winning the series (INDIA vs AUSTRALIA) and beating India by 3-2.

Once again the Play was slow and old school from Pakistani Cricket team and the collapses were regular and frequent. Last Matches captain IMAD WASEEM also could not do anything about it and Pakistan eventually faced a sad end to the dead rubber series for them.

Next Shoaib Akhtar

The Next Shoaib Akhtar is here

The Speed star “Shoaib Akhtar” has been the quickest bowler in world cricket since a long time but now there is someone new in town who can be the next Shoaib Akhtar. He is certainly QUICK. Well, the quickest in Pakistan.

Pakistan Cricket has been producing some amazing cricketing talent over the years. especially in the bowling department, Pakistan has produced some of the finest bowlers such as Imran Khan, Kadir Khan, Sarfraz Nawaz, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, Saeed Ajmal, Shoaib Akhtar, and many others. One special highlight of Pakistani bowlers is their unusual talents sometimes in the same of their bowling actions, sometimes they have an unusual “Dosra”, some invented “Reverse Swing” in death overs or some with an express bowling speed of (100mph) or 161.3kph. There is simply no denying that over the past 5 decades Pakistan has given some of the masters of a cricket ball to the world cricket. Whenever there will be a discussion on Pace bowling or speed of delivery one name will always pop up in your mind and that is the “Rawalpindi express” Shoaib Akhtar. He stunning the world with his super speed of delivering cricket ball and setting up a record of 162 kph which is yet to be broken. His career saw ups and downs featuring quite a few controversies as well but he surely had an impact on World cricket with his brutal fast pace bowling. Since Shoaib left the playing field in ICC World Cup 2011 under Shahid Afridi’s Captaincy.

Shoaib Akhtar’s Bowling stats.

While Akhtar was dubbed to be the coolest bad boy in Cricket he was also known for his fancy dressing and aggressive attitude just like his bowling. Some in the media also called him “DON OF CRICKET” due to his bad boy image which grew due to his style and the controversies he found him self in. Shoaib Akhtar will glow as a bright star in Pakistan cricket’s glorious history but he is part of the history now. so whats Next. Well recently during the PSL (Pakistan Super League), Pakistan’s own cricketing league featuring their raw cricketing talent. Quetta Gladiators played a special Player named Muhammad Hassnain. He came under spot light when he bowled some really fast stuff to the international players during his PSL matches.

Mohammad Husnain just 18 years of age played form Team “Quetta Gladiators” (QG) during PSL 2019 edition and stunned the cricket world by world at an express pace. He consistently bowls around 150 kph mark. With his express fast pace, he is able to trouble one of the finest batsmen in the circuit.

Husnain was bowling so quick in UAE that everyone was forced to think that if he could bowl so fast in such dry and dead conditions then how would he bowl in England conditions. Eyeing a future star in the form of Mohammad Husnain Pakistan Cricket Board decided picked him up for the next series against Australia and he was included into Pakistan’s ODI team straight away. With ICC Worldcup just around the corner, it is a good move on PCB behalf and may well be the defining moment of this youngster’s career. Though PSL and this Pakistan vs Australia Series is being played in UAE where pitches are not supportive of Pace bowling. Husnain has a tough castle to conquer in order to get himself included in WorldCup 2019 which is scheduled this year in England and Wales. It is always an added benefit of having someone in the dressing room who is capable of delivering bouncer at 150 clicks. Husnain is surely another positive Pakistan has taken out of their cricket League (PSL). Husnain has the pace needed but only time will tell what will he be able to create magic like the speed star Shoaib and match his persona and charisma on the field and off the field.

Pakistan is 6th in One Day Internationals ranking, but they have been stuck around rank 5th (in ODI) since long time, why aren’t they improving? What is the reason they are not doing well in ODIs, They are the No.1 T20 side, so aren’t they suppose to have good players in the bank?
All these questions are answerable but first we need to dig down deep to get to the problem with Pakistani ODI Team.

Pakistan Cricket has been up and down since they started playing international cricket back in November 22, 1935- (wikiPedia) , and has been the same as during the famous ICC-Champions-Trophy Final, England’s Nassir Hussain comments ” ONE MINUTE DOWN NEXT MINUTE UP, PAKISTAN CRICKET AT ITS BEST”.
Currently, Pakistan is 7th on ICC Test Rankings, 6th on ICC ODI rankings, and 1st on ICC T20 Ranking, but apart from ODIs PAKISTAN has been up and down in other formats, Pakistan did claim the ICC TEST MAZE in 2017 during the reign of Misbah ul Haq. So why is that Pakistan is every stuck on the last few spots in ODIs only? let us take a look at some reasons.

Let’s face it Pakistan in this day and age does not have a Rohit Sharma or a Hasim Amla as openers so yes the options have been limited lately there are no consistent Openers in the arsenal like Saeed Anwar or Amir Sohail.
So what is there a shortage of talent? Obviously not! One thing about Pakistan cricket everyone will agree upon is that they have loads n loads of talent. Talent like Sharjeel, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman have come along in the past few years but as the development part is what Pakistani openers are lacking. They are simply not consistent enough. Every now and then a new opening pair is tested and the newcomers are simply too cautious to play freely and hence the low Scoring rates in Powerplays.
Pakistan scores an average of

TeamRR since 2012
West indies6.5
Sri Lanka6.3

Since 2012 Pakistan has been scoring with 6.13 RR and if you consider the recent years Pakistan drop to 7th position. This is one clear indicator that the Game is gaining pace and Pakistan is not keeping up with it.
Here one can say if its only the batting that’s letting Pakistan down? well, the answer might be YES.

Batting Averages Current Players:

Pakistan's Current player's Batting Stats

Here in the above Stats image the green ones are the Players playing the current series between PAKISTAN and AUSTRALIA in UAE. If we take a look at their strike rates then apart from the New Edition Asif Ali and Imad Wasim there is simply no one with an impressive SR in ODIs. these two are used in the death overs with fewer deliveries to play with.

Today’s Cricket is a Fast, Six hitting, quick striking, unorthodox stroke making Cricket. But Pakistan seems to be stuck with the OLD formula of 90’s which was “Save wickets in the start score in the last Ten”. And that just simply does not work or should we say is not enough by today’s Game Standards. Teams today more often than not are regularly striking the 300 Mark and beyond. However, Pakistan’s Old obsolete approach does not allow them to hit that mark too easily.

The above Graphic tells us that Pakistani Cricket Team scored high enough in just nine occasions since 2015. With the exception of 2 matches, all of the rest are against lesser teams. and for the record, the recent high scoring match between PAKvSA was actually lost by Pakistan due to DRS in a rain-affected match as SA was scoring at a better rate. The other one being the Champions Trophy final against India in Oval.

Obviously one would ask that is it the batting only that is letting Pakistan down? well, the hard truth is Yes! All the Stats shown above clearly show that Pakistan’s bating is simply following the old formula that is not workable any more in the modern cricket and with the ICC WORLD CUP around the corner Pakistan needs to change this. They have no shortage of talent but that talent needs to have the game awareness and Play the modern game with the modern spirit. The Strike rate of the players needs to go up and the dot balls played needs to come down. If Pakistan keeps their current slow and steady approach then one would say that there are very slim chances of them getting close to anywhere in the top 3 Teams in the ICC Rankings.

Quetta Gladiators has beaten Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL Final convincingly by 8 wickets with 13 balls remaining. This was Peshawar Zalmi’s (PZ) fourth consecutive Loss to Quetta Gladiators (QG) on the trot in this season.

Ahmed Shehzad’s unbeaten 58* glided Quetta to a smooth win against Peshawar. Mohammad Hassan’s 3 Wickets upfront had set the tone in the first innings for the Quetta Gladiators restricting Peshawar to 138 runs only in 20 overs.

Quetta Gladiators beat Peshawar Zalmi by 8 wickets

The Pitch was indeed a typical predictable batting track with super fast outfield at National Stadium Karachi. Yet the Peshawar Zalmi camp persisted with the “All-Seamers” bowling attack which eventually turned out to be a disaster in the Final match. Captain Sammy realized this mistake mid-match and tried using the only available part-timer Spinner (Maqsood) but that too went in vain as it was too little too late for the lost cause.
Quetta’s Bowling, on the other hand, was a totally different package with a fine blend of Good Spinners (Muhammad Nawaz & Fawad) and Pace bowlers (Muhammad Hussain & Sohail Tanvir). Peshawar was also a heavy reliant on their openers (Akmal and Imam) for a solid start with did not come this evening courtesy, Nawaz and Hussain. and the openers failed it was also a tough going for the pinch hitters like Pollard and Sammy to get going against the cleaver spot-on bowling by QG. Eventually, when PZ only managed to score only 138 on a fine track like this it was always going to be tough for the bowlers to defend 7.08 runs per over. Peshawar was well short of their mark in setting up a good total and was short of atleast 30 runs.
On the Contrary QG opening batters specially Shehzad who was in supreme form kept his good form going and scored an unbeaten 58* despite the loss of Shane Watson in a chaotic Runout involving Shehzad’s Poor call on the striker end. but as they say, All’s well that ends well. Shehzad took it on his shoulders and finished the game for his team is a convincing fashion.
