Peter Handscomb

A talented junior tennis player, opening batsman and sometimes wicketkeeper Peter Handscomb opted for a cricket career and debuted for Victoria in 2011, scoring a patient 71 against Queensland at the Gabba.  Having made his maiden first-class century against South Australia in early 2012, he was handed a full contract with both the Bushrangers and Melbourne Stars for the 2012-13 season and took over the wicketkeeping gloves after Matthew Wade was called into Australia’s Test squad. Regarded as a skilful player of slow bowling, Handscomb enjoyed a standout Sheffield Shield campaign in 2015-16, hitting 784 runs – the third most in the competition behind Ben Dunk and teammate Travis Dean. After producing a match-winning century alongside Dean in the 2015-16 Shield final against South Australia, Handscomb made 61 not out in the second innings and was awarded man-of-the-match honours. Handscomb was also named Australia A captain in 2016 and has led Victoria in the Matador Cup. He made his Test debut against South Africa in Adelaide in 2016 with a half-century, while his maiden Test century came in his second match against Pakistan.

Handscomb had a brief stint with Gloucestershire in 2015, where he honed his technique going up against the more volatile Dukes ball.
