WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THE MATCH: IND vs AFG
What Afghanistan did right! Dominated in the first Innings.
In IND vs AFG match, India was taken by surprise when they lost Rohit Sharma upfront courtesy some amazing spin from Afghanistan right at the start of the match. Spin is the biggest strength of Afghanistan and they made full use of it in this match. Their ace spinner is Rashid Khan, who has been in the World’s top bowlers list from ICC rankings. Mujeeb and Nabi very also very clinical in their bowling performances and took important Indian wickets at crucial times. Rashid Khan took one wicket for his economical 10 overs while Nabi took 2 wickets. All the Afghan bowlers who bowled in the innings got wickets and bowled splendidly well to the mighty Indian batting side. Indian innings was restricted to a mere 224 for 8 in their 50 overs.
What Team India did right! Took the wickets.
It was a very small total on the ground where it wasn’t so difficult to bat and Indians categorically played some bad shots to get out in their first innings of the match. Afghanistan started rather cautiously and the first powerplay was well played. However Indian Bowlers maintained the pressure on the young side and knew they will falter under pressure. The runs were dried up and Afghan batsmen were forced to take the chances which were never needed. This was where the experience of the Indian side made all the difference in the end. Some regular textbook batting was required to get to this small total but Afghanistan kept on losing wickets at regular interval courtesy some very fine bowling from Jasprit Bumrah who took two scalps in one over opening the gate of Afghanistan’s batting collapse. But the showman of this show was Muhammad Shami who bowled splendidly well in the death overs and coming out as a superhero in the end over when he took a Hat Trick for his team winning it for India in an emphatic manner. Afghanistan was too close yet too far from crossing the finishing line at the end.
Afghanistan needed 16 of the last over with their most settled batsman “Muhammad Nabi” on strike. He started the over with a fabulous 4 runs of the first ball. That shot not only opened up the chances for Afghan side but Nabi also reached to his 50 runs milestone with that shot. then Nabi got out and right after it was another wicket followed by another. Courtesy some magical bowling by Shami.
Well, India got those two important points and are nearly into the semis now. For Afghanistan, there are lessons to be learned from this game. It was some competitive cricket they played today. Wish them luck for the coming matches.
